The news around here is that we bought a fixer upper at the end of the year. We had been looking for almost two years at that point and had almost given up hope that we would ever find our one story house in the crazy housing market in our area. Then on a random Saturday I saw an open house for a home not too far from where we lived, it had horrible pictures on the listing but was in a great area so we figured it was worth a look.
Not long after arriving at the house and doing a quick lap of the space my husband suggested that we put in an offer. This was a shock to me, because he had been the one unimpressed with all the homes we had seen prior. The house definitely needed work but it was in good shape and had all the right spaces for our family. We quickly called our real estate agent and asked if she could show us the home again that evening after the open house ended. We ran home, made sure we were good to go with the loan and got everything ready in case we wanted to make an offer that evening. We went back toured the house again and were sold that it could work for us. We closed on the house a month later and it was ours.
As soon as we got the keys we got to work on the updates we wanted finished before we moved in, for us that was replacing the flooring in the main living space and painting the whole house, plus a couple random to-dos.
