How He Asked the Aftermath

I wanted to start by saying I am just overwhelmed by everyone's kind words and wishes I am surrounded by so much positivity I feel beyond blessed! So thank you everyone!!! :)

Yesterdays post was full of plenty of its own information, pictures and excitement but only captured about an hour of our time in New Mexico. I arrived late Thursday night by myself and spent Friday with my family before Evan arrived Friday evening after work. We then headed straight to a Mexican restaurant with friends for some real New Mexican food and green chile.

Saturday morning has been covered. It was the time when I gained the most amazing finance and became the happiest girl in the world. I am still beaming and now that I am back home away from all the excitement I can finally just sit back and enjoy the thought that I get to marry my best friend. After our countless phone calls we cleaned up for Easter dinner with my dads family. My Dad, Step-mom, Sister, Evan and I sat impatiently waiting for everyone to arrive to tell them the big news. You better believe everyone was late and each passing minute made us more and more anxious. Once they arrived we didn't wait any time before making the big announcement. My dad quickly brought out the champagne for a toast, including sparkling cider for my 3 year old niece which she thought was the coolest thing in the world. We had a great time sharing and celebrating with everyone before dinner. All the festivities lasted through the evening. By this time we were honestly exhausted, so much had happened in such a short period of time but we thought we should go out for a celebratory drink.

The next morning came quick and it was time for Easter brunch with my moms family. We made sure to get there before everyone else so that I could tell my grandma, she was so cute, she cried and was absolutely thrilled. Her reaction made my heart so happy. Soon enough the rest of the family began to arrive, I cant express how much it meant to be to be able to share these movements with my family in person. Evan planned this perfectly knowing this would be the perfect time and how much this would mean to me. His thoughtfulness in including those details made it even more special. We then took the opportunity for some family pictures in the backyard. I love them

How He Asked

Today is my last day in New Mexico before I pack up and head back to Dallas. My trip turned out to be amazing whirlwind when Evan and I got engaged on Saturday. He planned it perfectly so that I would get to celebrate with my whole family, more on that later. Now on to the important part of the post, how it all happened.

Prior to our trip I suggested that we go on a hike while we are in New Mexico since that is something we cant do at home. Evan loved the idea and quickly agreed. Since then that was in the plan for our weekend, that was going to be "our time" away from the madness that can be keeping up with my family. Little did I know that Evan realized this would be the perfect opportunity for him to pop the question he had been planning for months, especially since I wouldn't suspect anything since I suggested the plans myself. In the couple days leading up to Saturday they had rain in the forecast and we were pretty bummed hoping it wouldn't foil our plans.

Well Saturday morning came and the weather was actually nice, however they were still predicting rain for the rest of the day. We decided to head out while the sun was still out in hopes of beating the storm. (Evan spent the morning stressed worried the rain would ruin his moment, while I had no idea) Well the second we started our drive to the mountain it started to pour. We decided to continue our drive since New Mexico is famous for rain storms and blow over quickly. We got to the trail, and it was still pouring so we sat in the car for a little while waiting for it to clear.

Evan seemed anxious to get out there on the mountain even though it was still sprinkling... I was so convinced. Once the rain had almost passed he convinced me it was time to start up the trail and I agreed. We set out on the trail, enjoying the enchanting view. We are both shocked each time we return by the beauty we took for granted growing up. You just cant beat the mountains or the New Mexico skies.

Soon enough the sun appeared. About .75 miles into our hike Evan stopped my saying he wanted to take some time to enjoy the view. He quickly began a speech about how much I meant to him and how much I loved him (some of the actual words are honestly a blur) at first I wasn't sure if it was really happening however his heart beat told me differently.. I could feel it beating out of control. He finished his speech and before I knew it he had dropped down to one knee and had a black box in one hand. I cried and hugged him before responding with an absolute YES

Where it happened

We spent some time together just taking in the moment together, during which I was just in shock. Then we continued on the rest of our hike while he told me all the details about how/ when he asked my parents, how he was able to buy the ring and hide it without me knowing, etc.

At the end of our hike our first stop was my moms house to tell her and my sister. My sisters reaction was one of the best because she was so confused and didn't understand what was happening. This was followed by countless phone calls to friends and family to tell them the news. Luckily with the holiday I already had plans to see certain family members and both my grandmas so I was able to tell them in person which was so special. The rest of the weekend was spent celebrating with all of my family and was such an amazing time. More pictures from the rest of the trip and the family gatherings will be up tomorrow!

Dresser Makeover

Well I finally finished the makeover of the dresser to match the nightstand I did several weeks ago and as promised here is my recap on the project. Let me start with a few facts. The first being that overall this project took me FOREVER, just because I didn't have a lot of time to commit to the project and we have had rain several weekends in a row which didn't allow me to work on it. This is because we do not have a garage and I have been doing the work on my open porch. Anyway I am more than thrilled to finally have finished and extremely happy with the outcome.

The steps for this are the same as for the nightstand so I will just do a quick recap. Here is the starting point:

First I removed all the hardware from the drawers, wiped them clean and sanded them down. At this point I filled in any scratches and imperfections with wood filler, then sanded those areas down as well.

Next I applied two coats of primer and two coats of paint. I then repeated all of these steps for the dresser portion. Reattached the hardware and put it all back together. Here is the before and after:

Seriously does it not look fantastic, I couldnt have asked for it to look better. It also works great for the space and really brightens up the room. This was a big step in the overall makeover of our guest room. I will soon post about that as well now that it is coming along at a steady pace.

So what do you think? Like the white?
