Toddler Room Tour- Cars Themed

Today I am sharing my sons new room. We are due with our second baby in a couple months and because of the size and shapes of the bedrooms we decided to keep the nursery as the nursery and move my son next door into what was once the guest room.

We used this opportunity to re-design a room for him and get him excited about moving. He picked a Cars theme and was so excited throughout the whole process of creating his "new room." Today I am going to show you the tour of the room. I wanted to keep things, simple and neutral with the "theme" elements easy to swap out if my toddlers interests were to change.

A couple weeks ago I posted a video showing the decorating process for the room, you can watch that video here. Below is the video tour of the room.

Now lets breakdown each section of the room with some photos, everything I used will be linked at the bottom of the post!

We made the crib wall our accent wall, using a brick wall paper, his existing crib, a name sign and lights. I love the pop of black against the brick, complimented with the wood grain of the crib. This wall actually features no Cars

For the lights we hung up two wall scones but did not hardwire them, we used the "lighting hack" with puck lights to use them. We wanted to have an option other than a lamp for a toddlers room, which didn't seem like a good idea and love how this turned out.

On the wall next to the door we have the dresser and gallery wall. This wall features all of the Cars characters and my son loves to look at them. This was a super simple and inexpensive design, we found the Route 66 sign at hobby lobby on sale for less than $10. Then I downloaded the Cars prints from Etsy, printed and framed them. It would be very simple to switch out these frames with different prints from Etsy if interests were to change.

On the opposite wall there is a little cutout between the two windows that I thought would create the perfect "reading nook." I started with a floor pillow and some additional pillows to create a comfortable sitting space on the floor. Then we hung a set of acrylic bookshelves on the wall to fill with his favorite books of the moment. Above the books I hung a set of "READ" letters. I painted three of them matte black, two with road lines and then on the final letter I used modgepodge to attach a piece of checkered scrapbook paper.

I love how this space came together and it ended up being our sons favorite part of the room. Every night we read books together in the nook.

Fall Front Porch 2020

Fall Front Porch 2020

I just finished up decorating my front porch for Fall and I am so excited to share. Decorating my porch for Fall is one of my favorite things, there is something about all the pumpkins and mums that brings so much joy. Above is the "decorate with me" video where I walk you through as I decorate. I love how it turned out. Here are the pictures of the final product, minus a wreath on the door I was missing a piece and didn't want to hold up the video and post :)

Fall Mantle Decor 2020

 Fall Mantle Decor 2020

Hello everyone, today I am sharing with you my Fall mantle decor for this year. The last couple years I did a more neutral Fall look and this year I wanted to incorporate more color. The mantle is the first piece of my Fall decor, much more to come. The full video of me showing each step of the process is linked above.

Here I am going to be sharing some photos and linking as many pieces as I can below.

What do you think? I am obsessed with those orange blooms and plan to incorporate more of the crimson color in the rest of my decor.

Playroom Tour

Today I am sharing a tour of our Playroom- which is the loft space in our home. It is at the top of our stairs and doubles as a second living room and play space. In the video below I share the process of decorating/creating the "Play Hard Be Kind" wall.

On this wall I first hung the letters to create the saying "Play Hard Be Kind" I started with unfinished wood letters that I painted with matte black acrylic paint then hung them on the wall. Next I created a magnetic chalkboard for the space below, I have a post and video on how I did that here

Along with the chalkboard we have a small table and chair set and a basket of stuffed animals. On the other side of the door we have our TV and a cube organizer where we keep most of the books and toys. Around that area we also keep baskets of more stuffed animals and toys.

On the other side of the room we have a small loveseat and a storage ottoman, a relaxing space where we can sit, read books and occasionally watch tv. However we honestly don't use this tv much anymore since it became a playroom.

Here are the links to everything in the space:

Kitchen Makeover- Before & Afters

Our kitchen is the space in our house that has seen the biggest change since we moved in and we love the transformation. We made most of the changes ourselves over time, I will run down each step below. Here is what our kitchen looked like when we bought the house (listing picture)

Our Kitchen Today

Updates we made:

  • First we painted the cabinets, video on the process here
    • This is the kit we used
  • Next we changed the light and added the backsplash
    • This is the light
    • This is the backsplash tile
  • Then we replace the appliances
  • Most recently we added a row of stacked cabinets & took the trim to the ceiling
    • Post & video on that process- here

Mini Home Office Tour

I work from home so a home office was a space we needed in our home, the previous owner of our house actually enclosed the space above the living room. They used it for a playroom, but it is a long skinny room so it was actually perfect for an office.

I am only going to show you this view of the space because to the right of this photo there is a ton of boxes and things I need to go through #reallife

Living Room Tour

Our living room is the main hub of our house. Our entire downstairs is a very open floorplan so in reality our living, dining room and kitchen are all one space. However our actual living space is anchored with our fireplace and TV. Here is a picture of the space when we bought the house (listing picture)

Here is our living room today:

As you can see the space really does look different than the before, however we didn't do that much to change the space. We just added our own furniture, added a mantle to the fireplace and painting the space made the biggest impact.
