Kitchen Makeover- Before & Afters

Our kitchen is the space in our house that has seen the biggest change since we moved in and we love the transformation. We made most of the changes ourselves over time, I will run down each step below. Here is what our kitchen looked like when we bought the house (listing picture)

Mini Home Office Tour

I work from home so a home office was a space we needed in our home, the previous owner of our house actually enclosed the space above the living room. They used it for a playroom, but it is a long skinny room so it was actually perfect for an office.

I am only going to show you this view of the space because to the right of this photo there is a ton of boxes and things I need to go through #reallife

Living Room Tour

Our living room is the main hub of our house. Our entire downstairs is a very open floorplan so in reality our living, dining room and kitchen are all one space. However our actual living space is anchored with our fireplace and TV. Here is a picture of the space when we bought the house (listing picture)

Here is our living room today:

As you can see the space really does look different than the before, however we didn't do that much to change the space. We just added our own furniture, added a mantle to the fireplace and painting the space made the biggest impact.

Dining Room Tour

Our Dining Room is right off the kitchen so it is our everyday eating space. We wanted to make sure it was comfortable & practical while offering storage. This is what our dining room looked like when we purchased the house (listing picture)

This is the dining room space today

What we did to update the space:

  • We updated the light fixture to this one
  • We added a row of cabinets to the back wall for storage- video here
  • Added open shelving for storage & decor- video here
  • Added in our own  furniture & decor - linked below

Adding the cabinets on the back wall gave us supplemental storage to the kitchen which has been great, we also use the space for a coffee bar and serving area for when we have people over. We just used upper stock cabinets and topped them with a wood top.

Then we added the open shelves to store pretty items and display seasonal decor. These we easy to create with wood boards and purchased farmhouse brackets. I absolutely love switching the decor up seasonally and bringing some color and style to the space.

Our dining table we actually purchased for our first house in Dallas but were thrilled it looked and fit just as amazing in this one. We purchased the table and four chairs as a set, then purchased the captains chairs separately from At Home. The table has a concrete top with a whitewashed wood bottom.

Laundry Room Makeover & Tour

The Laundry room in our house is a very small space, it is also the passthrough from the garage. However in our first house we did not have a laundry room the machines were just in the middle of the kitchen so we are thrilled to have it.

It was a blank slate from the beginning with one wood cabinet, a hanging bar, and terrible beige linoleum tile.

When we painted the kitchen cabinets I actually used the cabinet in the laundry room as our tester, I figured if I messed that one up it wouldn't be that big of a deal. It turned out great and we went on to paint the rest of the kitchen. We used this kit to paint all the cabinets, in the color linen.

Next we installed a wooden shelf across the machines for storage, how we did that is detailed in this video.

The biggest change in the space was covering the beige linoleum tile with these beautiful black & white peel and stick tiles. I showed the process of installing them in this video.
